MAC x Patrick Starrr

YouTube's mega-star beauty guru, Patrick Starrr, dropped his very first collaboration with M.A.C at the end of 2017 and for the most part, it's left us speechless.

Patrick is known for creating over-the-top looks with glitter, colour, bold lips, big lashes, and highlight that can be seen from outer space. What we're seeing from his collab is a 12 piece collection of demure nudes and his own version of the M.A.C's iconic red lipstick, Ruby Woo lipstick, called Patrick Woo.

Given that I had been watching Patrick on YouTube for the last couple of years, and I know how much he loves makeup and that he loves to cake that ish on. (But seriously though, his baking techniques really helped me understand how to create on-camera and event makeup and I can proudly say that I've never needed a touch up when I do my own face!). I was quick to chalk up his collection to be tame at first glance but once I started to photograph the pieces and really look at the shades did I understand his intentions.

His collaboration is meant to suit everyone - all skin tones, ages, and makeup preferences, whether it be natural or full glam. The warm pinks, perfect nudes, and classic reds are sure to look beautiful on, well, everyone because,

as Patrick says, "Makeup is one size fits all!"

The Perfect Holiday Reds

The Perfect Red Lipstick For The Holidays - for everyone - lipsick.me_5987.jpg

With Christmas only two sleeps away, I thought it would be fun to gather the best festive red shades for the holidays. These shades are bright, bold, playful, and perfect for puckering up under the mistletoe.

Red lipstick goes with everything, from that little black dress to a cozy knit and a pair of jeans but no doubt you'll always look chic.

From mattes, sheers, liquid lipsticks, cream formulas and shiny lip gloss, we've gathered up the perfect red lipsticks for the holiday season and beyond. I should also mention that my skin tone is light-medium with a yellow undertone and all of these shades work for me.

What's In Your Bag This December: 14 Lipsticks Nathalie Loves

what's in my bag - lipsick.me_5739.jpg

As the founder of a blog 100% dedicated to lipstick, it’s no surprise that I’m usually carrying at least six lipsticks on my person. It’s not at all on purpose and in fact, it’s more of a comfort thing. I’d hate to be caught in a situation where I don’t have what I need - let’s say a lip balm for hydration, a matte lipstick for longevity or a creme lipstick for colour and hydration. I know. It’s insane.

Using my lipstick neurosis as inspiration, Diana and I thought it would be great to start a “What’s In My Bag Series” each month. We’ll take turns of course as we ask one another, “Hey, what’s in your bag?”

I always carry around a compact in my cosmetics bag and it's not always powder. This NARS compact is the limited edition Orgasm packaging and it's particularly special to me because I did a project with them at the start of this year for their Facebook page for the Orgasam anniversary collection. This blush is also the first high-end blush I ever bought when I was in my teens.

Other items in my TUMI makeup bag include Urban Decay's Trouble Maker mascara and my NARS Orgasm blush. Pictured here are also my Felony Case marble iPhone case (made with real marble btw!), my quilted patent leather CHANEL cardholder and a random bottle of nail polish. This one here is called Jealous Boyfriend, flattering green-blue, from their Miracle Gel collection. I'm currently super obsessed with these polishes because they last a week before they start chipping.

MAC x Robert Lee Morris Lipstick Collection

MAC x Robert Lee Morris makeup collection 2017 lipstick, blush, powder, compact, brush, beauty_5400.jpg

When this MAC collab with jewelry designer, Robert Lee Morris hit my desk, I was blown away by the packaging. Not only is it true to the artist's aesthetic, but it's truly unique and like nothing I've ever seen before.

The RLM collection consists of face powder, blush, face brushes, a really slick compact that looks like a smooth black pebble, and of course, lipstick!

Leave it to MAC to present us with six ultra-flattering shades of lipstick that are suitable for everyone. No crazy black or blue lipstick here, these creamy shades are truly wearable and range from pale peachy-pink, like the shade Lychee, and a beautiful deepened red rose shade called Fig, that reminds me of my favourite Renaissance painting.

As with all of the artist collabs MAC, the RLM collection is limited edition so make sure you check out it sooner than later. Trust me, the black and brass packaging itself is such a feast for the eyes.

My favourite lip liners + trying some newbies

My favourite lip liners + trying some newbies_8814.JPG

Hello and happy Labour Day weekend. If you're here reading the Lipsick blog today, then thank you! In today's post I want to have a quick look at the wonderful world of lip liners. I have some good ol' classic MAC liners to share with you, along with some newbies that I've never tried until now from NARS and Buxom. If you're like me and believe that lip liners are the foundation of the lips, then keep reading.

BUXOM PlumpLine Lip Liner, $20

These thick lip liners from Buxom are excellent when you're if you're in a rush but don't want to skip the step of a lining your lips. The pigmented matte formula is neither dry, which they don't tug on the lips, nor are they overly creamy which means lipstick adheres nicely and the point stays sharp. The brush at the end of the lip liner makes contouring easy and saves space in our makeup bag from carrying yet another beauty product. Bonus, the lip plumping formula makes it easy for us to skip the lipstick altogether and wear this bad boy as a lip crayon. The collection comes in 20 shades which range from nudes to pinks and browns and retail for $20 Canadian or $17 USD.

SALE ALERT!

ULTA is currently having a HUGE summer sale and the Buxom PlumpLine's are on sale for $8.50 each!!! Yes fellow Canadians, Ulta does ship to Canada now! While you're there, be sure to stock up on this amazing clear vinyl train case for $12 that we're so obsessed with here at Lipsick.

NARS Precision Lip Liners, $30

These new wooden lip pencils from NARS are a must have for every lip stick lover out there. They're super precise and stay sharp so that you can get the best line from your bold lip. They're highly pigmented and long lasting and have really impressed me so far. I paired mine with the new Nars Powermatte Lip Pigments (review coming soon!) and I couldn't believe that my bold purple lip was still going strong after a long boozy lunch. If you haven't had a chance to try these yet, you need to!

LIPSICK TIP:

Keep your lines precise by sharpening your pencil before each use.

Bite Beauty The Lip Pencil, $20

This creamy lip pencil by Bite Beauty was released in stages with 25 colours earlier this year, and another 25 shades most recently. The entire range covers everything from pale nudes to white, black, navy, reds, pinks and violets, and oranges. They're highly pigmented, creamy in texture and infused with shea butter and castor seed oil. The one thing about this pencil is that the lid seems to be faulty on both releases so be careful with your designer bags. I had to have my Louis Vuitton pouch professionally cleaned because the liner got everywhere. Sadly, this wasn't the first time. Regardless, don't let this hold you back from trying out these awesome lip pencils by this Canadian brand. Just make sure you house it in a cheapy makeup bag for good measure.

MAC Lip Pencils, $22

Probably the most well known of the bunch here, MAC lip pencils are a staple in every makeup bag. My favourite nude shade ever has always been Boldly Bare and I've worn my out to the nub a few times because it's that good. It's the type of nude that won't alter the shade of the lipstick colour that gets layered over top and will prolong the wear of your lipstick in general. Win / win right? With 41 iconic shades in the collection, MAC can do no wrong.

M.A.C.'s Iconic Lipsticks

MAC's most iconic lipsticks - LIPSICK.ME - a lipstick beauty blog_2473.jpg

The first lipstick I ever purchased was from MAC. I was 16 and working part-time at The Bay. I remember thinking that paying more than $10 for makeup was insane, but I was drawn in by the allure of the magazine ads, the new standalone stores, and the glamour.

I kept that lipstick in my bag for years, long after I stopped wearing it. The incredible thing about lipstick, and all lip products in general, is the ability it has to make women feel beautiful. Just recently, I went out for brunch with a friend and felt self-conscious as I wasn’t wearing any makeup. She suggested I put on some lipstick – I did and immediately felt presentable.

Over the years, I’ve purchased hundreds of lip products. Some from my favourite drug store, and as I get older, expensive brands in shades that I continue to repurchase because I know what flatters my skin tone. One of the brands I turn to again and again is MAC.

SHOP THE POST

The brand’s classic lipsticks retail for $21, which is considered very affordable in this highly competitive market. This season, we’re obsessed with intense shine, and if that’s exclusively what you’re looking for, you might want to pass. You’d be best served by the brand’s extensive collection of glosses. However, if you’re looking for incredible staying power and statement-making shades, you’re bound to be obsessed with the lipstick’s gorgeous matte finishes. The tube in which these lipsticks are housed are a touch phallic, which is line with the brand’s brash, bold and extroverted character.

MAC Cosmetics is 33-years-old this year. The best thing about being in your 30’s is knowing what you want, how to get it, and being unapologetic about who you are. MAC continues to be a trailblazer and mainstay in an industry that’s constantly changing. Sometimes you’re looking for something classic and understated. Other times you don’t give a fuck and want to show people you’re having a great time and willing to take risks. No matter the occasion, MAC’s got you covered.

Diana Aldea

The name might be new to you, but Diana’s has been developing content for major brands for over a decade. She’s worked in advertising, ecommerce, broadcast TV and the public sector. That’s nice and all, but what does she know about lipstick? Aside from wearing it since the tender age of 11, she’s been a beauty contributor to WoahStyle since its inception, and actually pushed Nathalie to create the brand. She’s also real AF, so she ain’t gonna lie to you about products and how they work.
